You’re probably going to want to say a big Fuck You to the newest novel in the series, Deception.
For a list of innacuracies, check out this fan list of 50+ things you need to know about why this book is more than just bad. Other than the fact it’s destroying our canon plenty of the content is just downright offensive. Queer erasure. Fridging. ‘Growing out’ of autism.
WHAT CAN YOU DO: Check out the MassEffectWiki’s letter to Casey Hudson, found here. Send them your outrage. Tweet project lead Casey Hudson, who approved Deception for release. Ask for a change. Demand it - say it more eloquently than me. Tell them a person doesn’t just grow out of autism like an inconvenient tick. Tell them your biotics don’t work at ‘levels’, your ME-verse canon should remain intact, your quarians don’t breathe ammonia, for fuck’s sake. And most of all DON’T BUY THIS BOOK. BOMB THE AMAZON REVIEW. BOMB THE BARNES & NOBLE REVIEW. Tell them what you think. Fight back now. Get pissed. You should be.
This is incredibly important, ladies and gentlemen, so I suggest everyone who calls themselves a Mass Effect fan contribute.
Okay, I’m cheating since I haven’t done one every day…. I’m too damn busy for that. But I will attempt to do as many as possible as often as possible.
If I had to think on it carefully, or better yet, ask Guillory herself, both of us would claim it would either be her scarring or her eyes. If you know anything about real combat, you know that you never come out unscathed. Ellyn has been fighting almost her entire life, and has the myriad of scars to prove it. Those visible on a daily basis are those on her face/head: a small chunk of her right ear is missing, which continues briefly under her hairline, and there’s a well healed white scar that partitions the left of her mouth.
Scarring aside, what defines her most ably is the unnatural glow her eyes produce. A product of her ‘career’, if you will. It is the first thing that is noticed, and similarly the last thing they forget; it is a token of all her ‘kind’.
Technically, Guillory was raised by the Church… so I suppose you could say that she got along well enough with her “father.” It was never a matter of feeling or love; she was an instrument, a tool, to be used. That did not mean, however, that she was treated poorly. Instead, it was more…. well neutral. Her youth was conducted in a very business-like manner.
As for current relations, again her “father” was more akin to her boss; she works for him and his organization. They remain civil, but that is the extent of their relationship.
HEY RPERS, what if I started a meme. It’s a simple meme. You answer one question every day for thirty days, and by the end of it, you hopefully learn even more about your character and become a better roleplayer because of it! 8Dc Y’all should totes spread this around.
Here’s the list.I’MMA DO THIS WITH MY DAO MAGE, EREB, SINCE MY BRO JAZZ ASKED.
But in the morning… Since I’m k-nackered.
Alright, looks like I’m jumping on the bandwagon as well. Except it’ll be with my Opus: Ser Ellyn Guillory. She’s never been published before, not even on an online medium, and is quite a work in progress. However, she’s the one reoccurring character idea I have ever had. Ever.
