I threw the book to the floor when I was finished with it. Spoilers ahead.
*Warning: Rant (which I tried to shorten) and Spoilers*
I was so dissapointed, so throughly upset, at the atrocity Karpyshyn published that I have no words to express the summary of it all. M!Revan and Bastila were my OP, my first and strongest love in all of fiction. And Karpyshyn fucked it up.
I’m not talking about writing poorly, which I admit he is mediocre at best, but I speak of the fact that the entierty of “Revan” was pointless. Plus, stumpynat makes a brilliant point: Beautifully strong female characters are reduced to 1950s housewives and maids, with utterly no depth and concretion to the original character.
In addition, my horror at Revan’s fate is…. unmeasurable. While I, perhaps, was hoping for something similar to a happily ever after, I in no way expected one. But what Karpyshyn delivered was a mockery to the entirety of KotOR; Revan stopped being an independent character and a force to be reckoned with in fiction, and became a simple plot tool for those playing SWTOR.
And Bastila is left waiting for the man she loves for the rest of her life. She grows old in the shadow of a missing spouse. A shell of her former self, the fiery and passionate woman who went to hell and back, is left. Alone. Forced to raise a child that Revan abandoned.
Fuck you, Karpyshyn.
